AI mock interview practice

A mock interview with Vionter is a live conversation you have out loud with an AI interviewer that has already read your background. It asks, you answer, it follows up. What actually happens in a session

Most tools in this category hand you a list of questions and a text box. This is not that, and the difference shows up in the first ten seconds.

The interviewer opens in character. In a real session for a demand generation role it began: "Hello. I'm Omar, the VP of Demand Generation here. I've reviewed your background, and I'm looking forward to our conversation — are you ready to dive in?" Then it waits for you to speak.

From there it behaves like an interview rather than a quiz. It follows up on a vague answer. It moves on when you have covered something. It stays in role. Because it read your resume before it started, the questions are about your actual work rather than about a generic version of your job title.

You talk. There is no typing, and that is deliberate — interview performance is a delivery problem at least as much as a knowledge problem, and answering in a text box practises neither the delivery nor the thinking-on-your-feet part. It runs in 22 languages, so you can rehearse in the one you will actually be interviewed in.

What you get back

The review is the half that most practice tools treat as an afterthought, and it is where the time you spent actually converts into something. Four things land after a session:

  • Feedback on every answer — rated across content, delivery and language, with specific notes rather than a single score for the session.
  • A spoken model answer, written in your voice. Not the coach lecturing you on the ideal response — a version of your answer as you could plausibly have given it. It is much easier to use something that sounds like you than something that sounds like a textbook.
  • A guided review — a narrated walkthrough of that specific conversation, with visuals that move in time with the narration. It is seekable like a video, so you can jump to one topic, and it remembers where you stopped.
  • Session insights — what the conversation actually covered, and what it did not.
  • Knowledge cards — short summaries of the ground the session covered, generated automatically. You can swipe through them in under two minutes or listen to them narrated. The ones you are closest to forgetting come back first, so the practice does not evaporate a fortnight later.

Why not just use ChatGPT for this?

You can, and for a quick list of likely questions you probably should. It is free and it is good at that. Two things are different here, and neither is a reason to feel clever about it.

The first is that a general chatbot starts from nothing every time. You paste your resume in again, re-explain the role, and get a session that has no idea you had the same conversation last week. Vionter keeps the picture: what you answered well, what you were fuzzy on, what never came up at all. The next session is aimed at what is left rather than at the same middle ground.

The second is that the review is built for the job. A chatbot will tell you your answer was good. It will not hand you a narrated replay of your own session, a model answer written the way you speak, or a per-answer breakdown that separates what you said from how you said it.

What we do not claim

Practising will not make an unqualified candidate qualified, and no amount of rehearsal beats knowing the material. The AI gets things wrong sometimes — we wrote about that separately. What we will claim is narrow and testable: answering out loud, to something that pushes back and then shows you what you said, is better practice than reading a list of questions and imagining how it would go.

Do I speak my answers or type them?

You speak them. A session is a live, real-time, spoken back-and-forth with an AI interviewer, not a form you fill in and submit. It interrupts, follows up, and moves on like a person would. That is deliberate: interview performance is a delivery problem as much as a knowledge problem, and typing your answers practises neither.

What roles can I practise for?

Any role your resume supports. Vionter reads your background first and builds the questions from it, so there is no fixed list of supported job titles to fall outside of. On a paid plan you can go further and point a mock interview at a specific job posting you are actually applying to, and the questions are then built from the gap between what that posting asks for and what your profile shows.

Is this the same as Google's Interview Warmup?

No, and Interview Warmup is gone — Google retired it in 2026, and its old address now redirects to a general interview-tips article. It was a good free tool: it asked you questions, transcribed your spoken answer, and showed you insights about your talking points. Vionter is a different shape. The interviewer holds a role and reacts to what you said rather than reading from a fixed bank, you get per-answer feedback and a narrated review afterwards, and the picture it builds of you carries into the next session. It is also not free beyond the first run, which Interview Warmup was. If all you want is a free question-and-transcribe tool, we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend we are one.

What languages does it work in?

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in the browser. You need a microphone and somewhere you can talk out loud without feeling self-conscious, which matters more than people expect.
